Signs Of Heat Stroke To Watch Out For This Summer

Heat stroke can affect people and pets as well. Your dog could have heat stroke, especially if it's outside often throughout the summer months. Your dog may just go and go and go without stopping and then suffer from heat stroke, and you need to pay attention to the signs, so your dog isn't affected by this condition. If you suspect your dog has heat stroke, you need to get your dog help immediately before this condition takes its toll. Read on for some of the signs of heat stroke to keep an eye out for this summer.

Excessive Panting

If your dog is panting and it's non-stop, it may be a sign of heat stroke. Your dog is going to pant after some activity, but if it's a heavy panting and it's not stopping, it may be heat stroke. You need to get your dog to cool down and calm down, so take it to a cool area in the shade and allow your dog to rest. Don't allow your dog to get up if possible and keep the area quiet so as to not startle your dog.

Excessive Drooling

If your dog is drooling excessively, it may be from heat stroke. If your dog is panting along with drooling, you need to get your dog to drink some water. This may not be an easy task, as your dog may not be able to keep the water down. You need to give your dog small amounts of water at a time and don't allow your dog to drink too much of the water. Too much and your dog will more than likely throw it up. Keep your dog cool and keep giving them small amounts of water.

Malaise

If your dog is lethargic or is suffering from malaise, it could be from heat stroke. If your dog has been out playing or has just been out in the heat, it could have affected your dog and it may not be able to move around easily, as this could be affecting your dog's muscles and your dog may be feeling very weak. You need to give your dog the rest it needs.

If you notice any of these signs of heat stroke in your dog, you need to get it the treatment it needs right away, as heat stroke could affect your dog permanently. If your dog is suffering from heat stroke, take it to a local pet hospital.

Pet Care 101: Tips For Pet Owners

Growing up in a house full of animals, I developed a love for caring for them all. I knew that working as a veterinarian would be too emotionally difficult for me to do. However, that didn't stop me from dedicating my adult life to learning all I could about animal care and treatment. Not only did that knowledge help me to take care of my own animals, it also made it easier to help my friends and family with their pets as well. I decided to create this blog to help others learn what I know. I hope the information here helps you to take better care of your pets.
